Degree Day Chart
A form of degree day used to estimate energy requirements for heating. Typically, heating degree days are calculated as how much colder the mean temperature at a location is than 65°F on a given day. For example, if a location experiences a mean temperature of 55°F on a certain day, there were 10 HDD (Heating Degree Days) that day because 65 – 55 = 10.

East Tennessee Natural Gas (ETNG) Pipeline Rate Increase
We want to inform you of a rate adjustment resulting from a rate increase filed by our natural gas transmission provider, East Tennessee Natural Gas (ETNG), owned and operated by Enbridge Inc. On May 12, 2025, ETNG filed a rate case with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requesting an increase in the fees charged to utilities like ORUD for transporting natural gas through its pipeline system. These transportation rates are federally regulated and not controlled by ORUD.
Beginning November 1, 2025, this cost increase will be passed directly through to customers. ORUD does not profit from or retain any portion of these increased fees. Customers may begin to see the rate adjustment reflected on their December 2025 bills. Please note that this estimate may be revised downward as the rate case progresses toward a final settlement.
How This May Affect You:
Preliminary estimates indicate that the pass-through cost will result in the following average monthly increases on natural gas bills:
- Residential customers may see an average increase of approximately $7.18 per month.
- Commercial customers may see an average increase of approximately $39.74 per month.
Please note that actual cost may vary based on individual gas usage.
We appreciate your understanding as we remain committed to providing safe, reliable natural gas service.
